Legacy Giving

Your legacy gift creates a lasting circle of transformational impact in North Idaho.  We are deeply grateful for our Safe Passage Legacy Circle. Together we celebrate special friends of Safe Passage for their planned giving, lasting legacy, and heartfelt support.

Members of the Safe Passage Legacy Circle share a strong common bond of generosity and visionary leadership, supporting Safe Passage’s lifeline of critical programs and services for people impacted by domestic abuse, sexual assault, stalking, human trafficking, and child abuse.

We welcome the opportunity to recognize those who are helping to make the future of those we serve possible. Safe Passage’s Legacy Circle members are ensuring a future of safety, education, and empowerment for everyone in North Idaho. On behalf of our team and those we serve, please accept our deepest appreciation for your thoughtful commitment to future generations.

Asset Gifts

This includes money held in real estate, life insurance policies, publicly traded stock, mutual funds or other appreciated assets that can be designated tax-free to qualified charities to create a transformational impact.

Qualified Charitable Distributions or QCDs can reduce your income taxes - Normally, funds that are distributed from a Traditional IRA are includible in your taxable income, which is likely to increase your overall tax burden. In some cases, this additional income may also move you into a higher tax bracket.  However, QCDs are an exception to this rule—funds go directly from your IRA to your chosen charitable organization without going to you first, thereby lowering your adjusted gross income and effectively reducing your income taxes.

QCDs can satisfy Required Minimum Distributions - RMDs are amounts that you must withdraw annually from your Traditional IRA once you’re eligible (as of 1/1/2023, the age to start taking RMDs increased from age 72 to age 73, except for donors who turned 72 before January 1, 2023).  If you do not withdraw your RMD, you will face a penalty tax of 25% of the required withdrawal amount. QCDs can be used to meet this RMD requirement and avoid penalties.
